Dead Wooding
Taking the dead branches out and leaving the living tree alone.
Dead wood loses its grip on a tree over time, and in a garden or over a road it becomes the part most likely to come down on something. Dead wooding takes the dead and dying branches out of the canopy and leaves the living structure untouched.
It is a light job with a big effect on safety, and it is often all a large mature tree actually needs. Where a tree stands well away from anything it could damage we may suggest leaving some dead wood standing, because it is good habitat and there is no sense removing what cannot hurt anyone.
